A new comfortable corner for rest appeared in 2017 in the center of Moscow. The Zaryadye Landscape Park was set up on the site that was vacated after the demolition of the Rossiya Hotel and several historical buildings in the immediate vicinity of the Kremlin. The area of the park is 13 hectares.

The construction of Zaryadye Park took 3 years. The project of a new natural site with a number of interesting buildings where you can spend time with the whole family was submitted for consideration in 2013. A team of Russian and foreign landscape designers worked on it. On City Day, that is, September 9, 2017, Moscow received a truly royal gift - a new landmark. However, the Zaryadye Park opened for visitors only 2 days later.

Past Zaryadye

The park got its name from the area in which it is located. The historic district of Zaryadye has been known since 1365, although people have settled here since the 12th century. These quarters were located behind the stalls near the walls of the Kremlin, which is why they were called Zaryadye. In the 16th century, quite respected people settled here - merchants and artisans. The area was quiet and calm. This is probably what attracted foreigners who came to Moscow on business. So, in Zaryadye at Mytny Dvor, an English courtyard was opened, which can be seen today. It was recently restored and given as part of the collection of the Museum of Moscow.

Zaryadye in the 19th century is a heap of stone houses occupied by working people. It was also possible to find a large Jewish community here, which at the end of the 19th century was forced to leave their homes in the center of Moscow. In a matter of years, Zaryadye has turned from a prosperous area into an abandoned and uncomfortable one.

By the mid-60s of the last century, a huge hotel was built in Zaryadye, which was named "Russia". At that time, it was the most spacious hotel in the world. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, it was closed. At first, the city authorities wanted to build a new hotel in its place, but then heeded the advice of President Vladimir Putin and decided to establish a park here.

The cost of the site set aside for the park immediately skyrocketed in value. Any park building offers wonderful views of the Kremlin and the river.

Beginning of work

After a creative competition for the development of a landscape park, which was supervised by the mayor of Moscow and a number of committees and unions related to urban planning, 6 worthy park design companies were selected. They were given the task of developing a park with expanded infrastructure, a pier, and extensive parking. At the same time, it was necessary to preserve all the features of the relief and make the park accessible throughout the year.

The project of the American company "Diller Scofidio + Renfro" was recognized as the best. Architects and designers from New York, relying on the principle of the harmonious coexistence of the city and nature, proposed to organize a park, which consists of 4 natural zones typical for Russia. Walking along the paths of the park, you can see the forest, which is replaced by the steppe; swampy area, smoothly flowing into the tundra. Terrace park Zaryadye is sometimes called botanical. 120 species of plants grow here. There are no specific tourist routes here. Each guest of the park is free to choose the direction for his walk.

You can walk through Zaryadye Park from the Kremlin to Kitai-Gorod.

Attractions of the park

While walking in Zaryadye Park, you can visit a number of unique objects, some of which have not even been commissioned yet. However, in the near future, the city authorities plan to complete all construction work on these attractions. What can you find in the park?

  • Philharmonic building with two halls and a recording studio. This building has an open veranda. In the future, a semitransparent amphitheater will be located above the Philharmonic Hall and the areas closest to it;
  • a luxury hotel that will differ from other Moscow hotels in that a real tree will be planted in each room;
  • "Floating bridge" in the form of the Latin letter "V" with a large observation deck directly over the Moskva River. The bridge is absolutely safe, which is confirmed by various tests for the strength of the structure. The bridge can support the weight of about 3 thousand people. The authorities believe that the bridge will become a favorite observation platform for residents and guests of the capital;
  • media center with various educational attractions. During the show "Flight over Russia", visitors have the opportunity to get acquainted with the main historical sites of the country;
  • ice cave - a stylized pavilion with figures of ice and snow, fancifully illuminated by lanterns.

There are also historical monuments on the territory of Zaryadye Park. These include, for example, the remains of an ancient fortress wall and several temples.
