Description of the attraction

This monument is perhaps the most original of all the monuments installed in Kiev. The monument is a hefty bronze toad, and the animal's forepaws are predatory on the coins.

The author of this unusual sculpture is the sculptor Oleg Pinchuk, and the author deliberately refused the remuneration offered by the city, citing the fact that he created just a gift to the city and its inhabitants. But the sculpture cost him and the friends who helped him in a rather large amount - $ 180,000. Only one thing was required from Kiev - to find a place where this gift could be put. The problem was complicated by the fact that the monument to the Toad is very large - the base alone has an area of 4 square meters, and the total weight of this attraction reaches six tons.

The author himself offered to install his creation in Khreshchaty Park, and for a reason. The fact is that here, not far from the Philharmonic, there used to be a cult place, which was called the Toad. It was a cozy dance floor (later - a disco), which was covered with trees from almost all sides, which made it incredibly popular among Kiev dudes, constantly persecuted by the authorities. The issue of placing the monument turned out to be so acute that it was even necessary to create a commission on this matter. In the end, it was decided to open a monument near the Museum of Water, which was done at the celebration of the Day of Kiev.

Few of the guests of the city know that the monument to the Toad has one characteristic feature that its rivals installed in other cities do not possess. Anyone can throw a coin at the Toad, and she will endow him with well-being. The luckiest one can get a whole heap of coins thrown at the Toad by their predecessors (for this purpose, a special bucket is made in the middle, which turns over when a certain mass is reached).
