Journey to the "heart of Berlin"

When deciding what to visit in Berlin on their own, many tourists do not hesitate, of course, the first route to the historic city center, to the famous Reichstag and the equally famous Brandenburg Gate. Both of these architectural structures are a kind of visiting cards of the capital of Germany.

For all tourists from Eastern Europe, the Reichstag is also a cult place associated with the victory of the Soviet Union over Nazi Germany. The Brandenburg Gate is the most recognizable symbol of the city, replicated on souvenir products, appearing in many advertising and tourist brochures. Historians of architecture are ready to tell that the era of the Berlin Classicist style began with the construction of this gate. From the gate begins the Linden Alley - Unter den Linden Street, if you walk along it to the end, you can find yourself at the gates of the former royal residence.

It is interesting that Germany in the twentieth century was the initiator of both the First and Second World War, at the same time the Brandenburg Gate was erected as a symbol of goodness, light, and peaceful life. They have a second name - the Gate of the World, as the main decoration is a composition in which Irena, the ancient Greek goddess of peace, rides on an antique chariot harnessed to four horses.

Reichstag

Another cult place for tourists from Eastern Europe is the Reichstag, the building of the German parliament, as expected, looks austere and imposing. The building has a long and very complex history, which began long before its construction. The project was approved for ten years, until in 1894 Republic Square was decorated with a new architectural masterpiece, built in the style of the new Renaissance. The building was decorated with decorative elements made in the Baroque style, and it was completed with a huge dome, an object of admiration for all, without exception, the townspeople.

With the coming to power of Adolf Hitler, the building was associated with the Nazis, and after being taken by Soviet troops, it became a symbol of victory. Many of the soldiers who reached Berlin left their signatures on the building, and the building itself was almost completely destroyed. The restoration of one of the most beautiful architectural structures of the city began only in 1961, having finished by 1990.
