Description of the attraction

Rigi is a mountain located on the border of the cantons of Schwyz and Lucerne, the height of 1797 meters is one of the most popular tourist routes. In guidebooks, Riga is often called the "Queen of the Mountains" not only for its geographical location - in the very center of Switzerland, between two picturesque lakes (Zugskoe and Lucerne), but also due to the stunning panorama of the Alps from the top.

On the hiking trails of Mount Riga (their total length is more than 100 kilometers, there are panoramic and thematic trails, a flower trail), there are several nice photo zones with funny sculptures, but the best decorator, of course, is nature itself - from the top of the grief you can see 13 lakes and everything Swiss plateau - from the heart to the very borders with Germany and France. Unforgettable views have left their mark on the work of famous people: the English artist Joseph Turner has several mountain landscapes with views of Riga, and Mark Twain dedicated a whole chapter to the Queen of the Mountains in his book A Tramp Abroad.

In winter, the slopes of Riga turn into tobogganing (starts right from the Rigi Kulm station) and ski slopes of different difficulty levels. You can relax after skiing in one of the many restaurants, sitting on a sunny terrace or near a cozy hearth with a live fire.

You can get to Riga by the oldest mountain railway in Europe from Vitznau (opened on May 21, 1871) by a blue train or from Art Goldau by the world's first electrified railway. The road is red. From July to October, on weekends, you can travel on both routes on a retro steam locomotive, accompanied by a conductor in an authentic 19th century costume. For thrill-seekers, there is a third way, a cable car leads from Weggis to the mountain, its route is replete with sharp changes in altitude, this is especially noticeable when moving down. But there is also a bonus - panoramic windows in the booths and a breathtaking view.
