The historic center (Rattanakosin Island) is a "repository" of attractions. Here you can see:

  • Wat Pho monastery - there are 95 stupas and 4 meeting rooms; and in the gallery you can see 400 Buddha statues;
  • Royal Palace - buildings in the southern part of the complex are open for visiting; you will be offered to look into the royal residence, the Throne Room, the royal library, government offices, admire the frescoes depicting episodes from the life of Rama I;
  • Temple of the Emerald Buddha - in addition to the statue of Buddha made of green jadeite, you can admire the walls with scenes from his life;
  • Royal Pantheon;
  • Marble Temple - the whole complex is made of marble; the main hall - "storage" of the ash of Rama V; guests can visit the covered gallery where they can see 50 Buddha statues;
  • the remains of the 19th century city wall;
  • Thai Parliament;
  • National Museum - tourists are invited to view the permanent exhibition in the form of household items, Thai theatrical costumes, handicrafts, musical instruments dating back to different eras.

Siam Square: Here tourists will find shops that are cheaper than other tourist areas (World Trade Center and Siam Discovery Center are suitable for shopping). In the area, tourists can visit Jim Thompson's house (a Thai-style teak structure surrounded by a tropical garden) and walk through a glass tunnel watching sea animals at the local Aquarium.

Silom: you can see the Wat Kek Silom temple, stand on the observation deck of the State Tower (you can take a photo of the views opening from here), visit the Lumpini Stadium (it is worth visiting the Muay Thai fights).

Where to stay for tourists

The best as well as inexpensive hotels can be found in the Silom area. This area is suitable for lovers of nightlife, because its center is Patpong Street with discos and strip clubs. Also, transport is well developed here (there are metro stations).

Still, most travelers looking to plunge into the nightlife choose hotels in the Sukhumvit area, which has beer and go-go bars. The cost of services here is higher than in Siam Square, but lower than in Silom (on average, a night stay at a hotel costs $ 20-150).

Interested in shopping and budget accommodation? All this can be found in the Pratunam area (there are also street markets with quite attractive prices for goods, and shops). Amari Watergate Hotel is a 5-star hotel in the area.

Do you want to take a close look at the sights and feel the historical spirit of Bangkok? Live in the historic city center. There is a large selection of hotels for every taste and wallet size.
