After the city was conquered by the Umayyad Caliphate, and at the end of the 15th century, the city was conquered by King Manuel I of Portugal.

Today Alcacer do Sal is known for the fact that a few kilometers from this city there is a natural park of the Sado River, which covers an area of 23.16 hectares. Cork oaks, pines and mangroves grow in the park. Among the buildings, connoisseurs of ancient architecture should look at ancient containers in which fish was salted. The reserve is home to rare birds such as the white stork, flamingos, herons. Here you can also see bottlenose dolphins, which are a rare breed of dolphins. Bottlenose dolphins are also a symbol of this nature reserve.

Lovers of military architecture should visit the Alcacer do Sal castle. It will also be interesting to visit the monastery of Nossa Senhora de Arakaeli.
