Description of the attraction

The Sochi Winter Theater, located in the Central District of the city, is an architectural monument of federal significance. The construction of the theater was carried out from September 1934 to November 1937. The author of this project was the architect KN Chernopyatov.

The building is surrounded by 88 columns, which create one of the most beautiful architectural compositions - the Corinthian one. The central portico is crowned with a pediment with three female figures representing architecture, painting and sculpture. These figures were created by the hands of the famous sculptor V. I. Mukhina.

The auditorium of the winter theater is designed for 970 seats. It is made in three colors - gold, white and blue. The ceiling is decorated with a huge chandelier with sparkling crystal trimmings. The theater stage is perfectly visible from any place in the auditorium. The theater hall is protected from service premises by an iron fire-resistant 22-ton curtain, which is located at the top of the stage during performances.

The grand opening of the theater took place in May 1938. During the entire existence of the theater, performances of many Moscow theater troupes and St. Petersburg theaters took place on its stage. The performances of theaters from Kiev, Yekaterinburg, Tbilisi, Riga, Minsk and Krasnodar enjoyed great success. Such famous pop and stage masters as A. Raikin, E. Gogoleva, S. Richter, V. Kachalov, B. Shtokolov, S. Lemeshev, I. Ilyinsky, D. Oistrakh and many others performed on the stage of the Sochi Winter Theater.

The Winter Theater also houses the oldest concert city organization - the Sochi State Philharmonic, established on January 4, 1968.
