Description of the attraction

Uncastillo is a small cozy town located in the Aragonese Pyrenees and part of the province of Zaragoza. The population of Uncastillo as of 2010 was only 781 people. The town is located in a picturesque area surrounded by green meadows and forests. On the north side, Uncastillo is surrounded by the Sierra de Santo Domingo mountain range, which provides the settlement with protection from the winds and creates favorable climatic conditions in the area.

Archaeological excavations and research have proven that a settlement has existed here since ancient times. Scientists believe that the first inhabitants of this area were the Celts and Basques. In 179 BC. the settlement was captured by the ancient Romans, who laid down their city here. The first written mention of this settlement dates back to the beginning of the 10th century, when during the reign of Sancho Ramirez a fortress was built here, the name of which gave the name to the town itself. In the 12th century, Uncastillo experienced a period of true heyday, which was reflected in the culture and architecture of the city. It was at this time that 6 churches in the Romanesque style were built here. In the 16th century, the city experienced a new round of development, during which the city council building and other buildings of civil architecture were built. In 1966, Uncastillo was declared a historical and artistic monument.

Among the most famous sights, I would like to highlight the churches of St. Martin, St. Mary, St. Juan, made in the Romanesque style, the Palace of Pedro IV, built in the 14th century in the Gothic style, the Jewish quarter, the building of the town hall and the old one, erected in the 10th century and well preserved to this day. Siberian castle.
