Description of the attraction

The small, cozy town of Steindorf am Ossiachersee is located on the northern shore of the Carinthian lake Ossiachersee. It is ideal for summer vacations. And although in the town itself, whose area is about 30 square meters. km, there are few attractions, its convenient location allows you to take a day's walks around the surroundings. For example, from the neighboring village of Bodensdorf, you can get up by car along the toll road to the slope of the Gerlitzen mountain. The route ends at an altitude of 1764 meters. A chairlift leads to the top of the mountain. The Gerlitzen observation deck offers stunning views of the Austrian mountains and the lakes far below. In summer you can meet paragliders here, and in winter - skiers.

On the southern shore of the lake rises the ancient abbey of Ossiach, founded by Benedictine monks at the beginning of the 11th century. It has now been abandoned by its owners and is used as a concert venue for bands that come every summer to the Carinthian Summer festival.

In the village of Steindorf am Ossiachersee, guests can enjoy a variety of activities. If you wish, you can rent a boat and go fishing in the lake. If tourists are interested in sports, then Steindorf has tennis and golf courses. They also ride horses and mountain bikes on special paths that are laid at an altitude of 500-2000 meters above sea level.

Local tourist attractions include the quaint stone house built by the fashionable Austrian architect Gunther Domenig, as well as the parish church of St. Jacob, the temple of St. Margaret and the home of the artist Svitbert Lobisser in the village of Tiffen.
