Description of the attraction

The Bygde Peninsula is one of the most visited districts in Oslo, as it houses numerous museums: the Norwegian Open Air Folk Museum, the Viking Ship Museum, the Fram Museum and the Kon-Tiki Museum.

The oldest of them is the Viking Ship Museum, which contains amazing archaeological exhibits - ancient graceful ships on which the ancestors of the Norwegians sailed the seas around Europe and crossed the Atlantic to the shores of America, as well as numerous items from the Viking burials.

Another museum, called "Fram", houses the main exhibit of Friedthjof Nansen's ship, built according to the drawings of the famous polar explorer especially for sailing in the harsh conditions of the Arctic. A quarter of a century later, another Norwegian traveler, Roald Amundsen, sailed on the Fram to the shores of Antarctica and then was the first man to ski to the South Pole.

But, perhaps, the most visited museum today is the Kon-Tiki Museum. It is a private museum owned by Thor Heyerdahl. It contains two main exhibits - the Kon-Tiki raft and the Ra papyrus boat, on which the brave Norwegian made his famous voyages across the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.
