Description of the attraction

One of the first "oases of culture" in the city of Dnepropetrovsk, at that time Yekaterinoslav, is the so-called "Governor's House", which is located at the corner of K. Marx Avenue and Lenin Street. The ancient architecture was erected in 1830 in the neo-Gothic style, and this is precisely the uniqueness of the "Governor's House", the history of which is quite rich and excitingly interesting.

Since 1850, this elite building acted as an English club, and in 1887 and before the revolution, it housed the residence of the Yekaterinoslav governors. After the October Revolution, the building was renamed several times. For half a century, its owners were constantly changing, one after another. But, despite the fact that at that time the building housed the Council of Workers, the Council of Soldiers' Deputies, as well as the "Palace of Pioneers", the building was nevertheless unofficially called the "Governor's House". As a result of all these events, the house was taken under state protection and announced as a "Historical Monument". From the beginning of 1919 it was the "Provincial Executive Committee", after - the "Teacher's House", from 1934 - the "House of Pioneers", and from the end of 1970 the house was under the leadership of: the DOSAAF committee, the statistical department, united youth ensembles and discos, and also acted as a design institute.

In 1983, the previously demanded house was left without its inhabitants, without heating, lighting and, which is absolutely terrible, without locks. Before the eyes of all the townspeople and the authorities, the historical monument turned into an abandoned dump and a shelter for the homeless.

In 1997, the house was purchased and reconstructed as an office by Privatbank, which gave it a new life, and also returned the former name of the Governor's House.

Nowadays, the building "House of the Governor" is a historical monument of architecture of national importance.
