Description of the attraction

The estate of the Decembrists in the village of Khomutets, Mirgorodsky district, Poltava region is a monument of history and architecture of the late 18th - early 19th centuries.

Information about the wooden palace and garden was left by the famous scientist A. Gildenstedt, who in 1774, together with a Russian scientific expedition, visited the village of Khomutets.

At the beginning of the 19th century. this estate was inherited by the famous Russian educator, diplomat, translator, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and a descendant of hetman D. Apostol - I. M. Muravyov-Apostol. After his resignation, I. Muravyov-Apostol moved to the village of Khomutets, where he revived and put in order the family estate. His sons - Matvey, Ippolit and Sergei were active participants in the Decembrist movement.

The two-storey central part of the palace, connected by semicircular passages with the side wings, formed a U-shape. On the side of the park facade there was a terrace-loggia with stairs, which led to a pond with islets. The park area is 77 hectares.

In the years 1824-1825. In the Khomutetsky Palace, meetings of the Decembrists were held, which were attended by famous associates in the conspiracy of the Muravyov-Apostles brothers - P. Pestel, M. Lorer, N. Bestuzhev-Ryumin and other Decembrists, as evidenced by the memorial plaque with the traditional profiles of the Decembrists (1975). After the death of the owner of the estate, the estate passed to his youngest son V. Muravyov-Apostol.

Since 1920, the palace of the estate housed an agricultural professional school, and since 1930 - a pig breeding college, which in 1933 became a veterinary and zootechnical college.

Today, the Decembrists' estate, hidden in the center of the park, is located on the territory of a veterinary college. The main building of the palace is in disrepair. It is, as it were, closed, but there are no separate doors and glass in some places. The broken and dying manor just disappears.
