Description of the attraction

A whole complex of museums is located on the Shaumankai embankment

The Museum of Applied Arts was opened in 1983 in a rebuilt building that united the Biedermeier house and the Metzler mansion. Here is a magnificent collection of arts and crafts from Europe and Asia. The Museum of Ethnography is located nearby.

The Museum of Architecture is located in an avant-garde building designed by O. M. Ungers. In addition to the permanent exhibition, temporary exhibitions dedicated to the architecture of the twentieth century are organized here.

Nearby is the German Film Museum, which houses many documents and objects related to the history of the film industry. The museum has its own cinema, where old and rare films are shown.

The Sculpture Museum is housed in the Liebig House. Here you can see works from ancient times to Mannerism, Baroque and Rococo. Including fine examples of ancient Egyptian art, Renaissance art and neoclassicism.

The Städel Art Institute bears the name of its founder, the banker Johann Friedrich Städel, who in 1815 bequeathed his art collection to the city. The museum grew through gifts and various acquisitions. The ground floor of the building houses temporary exhibitions of paintings and drawings. The second floor is devoted to works of art of the 19th-20th centuries. On the third are works by old masters - European artists of the XIV-XVIII centuries, including paintings by Botticelli, Bosch, Jan van Eyck, Jan Vermeer, Rembrandt, Watteau and many other famous masters.
