Description of the attraction

The Church of the Archangel Michael is located in the city of Dno on a small hill, located at the very end of Sovetskaya Street, above the Dno-Novgorod road, and around the church there are massive old poplars. The church was erected in the post-war period of 1812, which, in all likelihood, is associated with the commemoration of the victory, as well as the memory of all those who died in this war. The temple was built on the funds of Major General V. V. Adadurov in 1821.

The Church of the Archangel Michael is considered three-altar: the first altar is consecrated in honor of the Archangel Michael, the second altar - in honor of the Old Russian Mother of God and the third - in the name of Elijah the Prophet. If we judge about the temple by its spatial structure, then it is worth noting its unusual feature: it consists of a pair of quadruples, one of which is represented by a supporting drum, and the other is directly enclosing a structure with an apse approximately equal to the radius of the drum itself. The temple is absolutely symmetrical about the passing longitudinal axis.

From the western part, a rather late bell tower built of wood, ending with a spire, adjoins the quadrangle. An artificially made porch is created by some displacement of the small quadruple closer to the east, as well as by introducing a pair of columns into the gradually increasing span with a step that is exactly equal to one of the sides of the small quadrangle. The small quadrangle includes fairly large openings, designed in the form of circular arches located on four sides. The opening on the east side is covered with an iconostasis. The small transition of the quad into the drum goes through an uncomplicated trumpet structure. The drum has four recessed openings on all cardinal points. The drum is crowned with a flattened and irregular dome, which, most likely, was due to the provision of repair work.

The decoration of the church drum is made with the help of paired or double columns, oriented by their position to the southeast, southwest, and also northeast. Columns of this kind bear a cornice of the most complicated profile. Along the entire perimeter, the walls of the temple quadrangle are surrounded by several rods, the first of which is located in the middle between the transom and the window opening, and the second is at the level of the window sill. The entire perimeter of the building carries a cornice, also of a rather complex profile. The apse is decorated with a small dome on a thin neck.

All window openings of the Church of the Archangel Michael have an ordinary simple platband. At the top of the windows there is a semicircular transom, which is beautifully decorated with an arch and a keystone. Church iconostases have not yet been thoroughly studied by specialists. Of greatest interest are the royal carved gates located on the left side of the chapel from the entrance.

The Church of the Archangel Michael is completely lined with bricks, only the base made of bathtub is supported by cement mortar, the roof is made of tin, and the facing part of the facade is lined with granite tiles. The church building is 30 meters long, 22 meters wide, and 12 meters high to the base of the cross.
