Kos is one of the most picturesque islands of the Dodecanese (Southern Sporades) archipelago. Fascinating ancient history, many interesting sights and magnificent beaches attract a huge number of tourists here.
One of the most popular places on Kos is the resort town of Kardamena, the second largest settlement on the island. It is located about 30 km from the capital of the island of the same name and 5 km from the international airport. The city of Kardamena was built on the site of the ancient settlement of Alasarna, which in the II century BC. was a fairly important administrative center of the island. During archaeological excavations in the vicinity of Kardamena, the temple of Apollo, an ancient theater, as well as basilicas and various structures of the early Christian period were discovered.
Today Kardamena is a well-developed modern resort with an excellent tourist infrastructure.
