  • How to choose a hotel in Rome?
  • Cheap accommodation
  • Expensive area

Rome stands out among other European capitals. This is an ancient city in which time seems to have stood still. The past here exists on a par with the present. The buildings on its streets belong to different eras, but they look quite harmonious together.

Rome cannot be explored from the tourist bus. You need to walk in the Eternal City on foot, enjoying every moment, recognizing the famous buildings known from advertising brochures, stepping on the stones that remember Caesar, the Apostle Peter and hundreds of famous saints, artists, writers, kings, politicians. Therefore, Rome does not have the same rules as you are guided by when choosing hotels in all other cities. So where is the best place to stay in Rome to get the most out of your trip?

How to choose a hotel in Rome?

There is a metro in Rome. It is small, consists of only a few branches. Perhaps the main station useful for travelers will be the Termini stop. There is also a railway station. Another station - Colosseo - is located next to the Colosseum. The rest of the stops are located on the outskirts of the historic center, so it is possible to settle near them, but not advisable. So in Rome, we remove the first rule of all seasoned travelers: take a seat near the metro. What to look for in Rome when choosing a hotel:

  • living in the Eternal City is a must in the center. You can rent a budget hotel on the outskirts, but spending about an hour every day on the road in those areas where the main attractions are concentrated is simply a crime on vacation;
  • in the historical center of Rome there are no dangerous areas where tourists are undesirable to settle;
  • when choosing a hotel, you need to pay attention to its location. If the hotel is located on a noisy street with bars and restaurants, then you will not be able to get enough sleep;
  • if you are planning to travel outside of Rome, then it is worth considering booking a hotel room near the train station.

Cheap accommodation

Travelers still believe that the area of any train station is an unsuitable place to stay on vacation. Forget this statement in Rome! It is absolutely safe around the station at any time of the day. There are homeless people here, of course, but they live near the bus station, which can be bypassed.

The main advantage of hotels near the train station is the low rental price of their rooms. In addition, it is only half an hour walk from here to the Colosseum and about an hour to the Vatican. By metro, the journey to the Colosseum will take only 5-7 minutes (these are two stops). There are plenty of attractions around the Termini area: the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, the Baths of Diocletian, the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli and others are within walking distance.

Also worth noting is the large supermarket, which is open on the underground floor of the station. As you know, there are few grocery stores in the center of Rome, and it takes a lot of effort to find them.

Expensive area

In Rome, you need to prepare for a long and long walk. The main tourist attractions here are not concentrated on one street, but are distributed throughout the historic center. Finding a hotel from which it would be a stone's throw to all the iconic places of the Italian capital is difficult, but possible. These hotels are located in the blocks between the squares of Navona and Spain. This is the most populous and fashionable area in Rome. There are always a lot of tourists here who sit in restaurants and taverns until late at night. The most expensive hotels are located around the square with the Trevi fountain. The famous Corso street with shops of famous companies begins a few steps from here. The disadvantage of relaxing in local hotels is the constant noise from the street.

The area of Veneto Street, which is mentioned in the film “La Dolce Vita” by the famous Italian director Federico Fellini, is also considered dear. There was a time when it was easy to see a movie star or a famous writer in local cafes. It is now a prestigious area with luxury hotels and restaurants. From here you can walk in 15 minutes to Termini Station and in about the same time to Plaza de España. The Villa Borghese park and museum are also nearby.
