The Balearic archipelago consists of a number of beautiful islands, but the main place in the hearts of tourists is, of course, the largest of them - the island of Mallorca. This island resort has opportunities for summer pastime, not only the beach, but also the cultural one. It is important to decide what to visit in Mallorca first of all, what to postpone until your next visit.

Majorca natural attractions

The island pleases with a mild warm climate, strikes with unique natural landscapes, the beauty of individual representatives of the kingdom of flora. While traveling around the island, you can see picturesque valleys and dark emerald forest jungle, mountain ranges hiding peaks in the clouds and crystal rivers.

Among the most famous natural attractions in Mallorca, the first place is occupied by the picturesque caves located in the northeastern part of the island. The halls in the caves, created by nature itself, have interesting names associated with the Christian religion. So during a not very long journey, the tourist will have time to visit "Paradise", and "Hell", and "Purgatory". This tourist route assumes other entertainments for guests: acquaintance with the record-breaking stalagmite, the highest in the world, reaching 22 meters; visiting unique concerts, where classical music is accompanied by a light show; purchase of amazing work of souvenirs in a local shop.

And on the way to the caves, tourists will have the opportunity to see the art with which Major's factory jewelers work, as well as take part in the tasting of delicious locally produced liqueurs.

Among other natural attractions, the tourist avenues of Mallorca recommend visiting Cabrera, a national park, or Galatzo, another very beautiful natural park. Marvelous seascapes await guests at Cape Formentor.

Dive into the world of underwater beauty

The very first object in the answer to the question of what to visit in Mallorca on your own will be the Marine Park of Palma de Mallorca. This establishment has been holding the title of the best European aquarium for many years. It occupies a huge territory, has more than fifty thematic aquariums, each of which presents the brightest inhabitants of the Mediterranean in all their pristine beauty.

You can travel to this famous aquarium on your own, just enjoying the appearance of marine life. If you want to know some interesting facts about them, myths and legends associated with them, then “welcome” to the excursion.

But you need to be prepared that the time on the route will be about four hours. Having gone on an amazing journey, visiting the sea inhabitants, it will already be difficult to leave everything halfway. The second interesting point is that during the excursion there will be an opportunity to touch individual inhabitants of the depths in an open mini-aquarium (sea cucumber and sea urchin).

The third surprise of this marine complex in Mallorca is the deepest shark aquarium in Europe. It is designed in such a way that the predatory fauna swims directly over the head of the visitors.

A journey through architectural masterpieces

Not only natural monuments await guests on the island of Mallorca, here you can find and discover beautiful buildings and structures. One of them is Castel de Belvedere, a castle built in the Gothic style. It has its own zest, since among all similar buildings on the island, only the Belvedere has a round shape.

You can get to the castle in one of three ways: by driving your own or rented car (parking at the castle is free), using the services of a tourist bus (excursion program is provided), or by regular bus. The castle impresses with its round shape and massive walls.

The highlight of this architectural complex is the tower, which stands separately from the fortress, but is connected to it by a corridor. From this tower, the surroundings are clearly visible, which excluded cases of a surprise attack.

The main temple of Palma de Mallorca is the Cathedral, which is consecrated in honor of St. Mary. This is another fine example of the Gothic architectural style, the construction of which began in 1230. According to a not very good tradition of that time, the construction of the temple complex was delayed, it was built and rebuilt. One of the most famous Spanish architects, Antonio Gaudi, had a hand in the design of the interiors. The highlight is the original stained-glass windows installed on the numerous windows of the Cathedral, thanks to which the Gothic temple inside looks quite light and spacious.
